清盛が、叡山の僧兵にかつがれた神輿に、矢を射込む場面を、撮影しているところだ。祇園神社の楼門を押し出す行列をさえぎり、清盛が立ちはだかっている。楼門の朱色は、祇園のもののように見えるが、そうではなく、叡山の東ふもとにある坂本の日吉神社である。時代色やふんいきの関係から日吉神社を祇園神社に見立てたが、効果はあったようだ。

ここは、この映画のいわゆるクライマックスなので、リズムを強く高く盛り上げるのに苦労した。清盛が堂々たる英雄振りを発揮するのだが、見た目の勇ましさだけでは、主題からはずれる。仕上げた上でないと分らないが、清盛の無形のきはくが、僧兵たちの武力を、圧倒するように、演出したつもりである。（映画監督）
