萩原氏の本はよく売れるさうである。ところで萩原氏は文学的苦労人である。氏に会つてゐると何か暖いものが感じられる。だから氏の本がよく売れることは、私としても喜びである。

氏は実に誠実な人で、いつ迄経つても若々しい。一見突慳貪にも見えるけれど、実は寧ろ気が弱い迄に見解の博い人である。然るに氏のエッセイはとみると、時にダダツ子みたいに感じられる時がある。蓋し淫酒のせゐである。而してその淫酒は、氏の詩人としての孤独のせゐである。

私は何故だか萩原氏を思ふたびに、次のポオロの言葉をくちずさみたくなる。

「我は強き時弱く、弱きとき強し。」
