      <p style="text-indent: 1em" rend="first-line-indent(1)"><seg source="#source-616-843">あてもなくさ迷い歩くというが、やはり、真実を求めているのだ。また美を求めているのだ。なぜなれば、人間は、この憧憬がなければ、生きていられないからだ。</seg></p>
      <p style="text-indent: 1em" rend="first-line-indent(1)"><seg source="#source-843-1011">あわれなる流浪者よ、いったい、どこに、その真実が見出され、美が見出されるというのか？　そして、いつになったら、</seg><ruby type="furigana" rend="right" source="#source-1011-1029"><rb>汝</rb><rt>なんじ</rt></ruby><seg source="#source-1029-1073">の流浪の旅は終るというのか？</seg></p>
      <p style="text-indent: 1em" rend="first-line-indent(1)"><seg source="#source-1073-1319">人間が、この地上に現われた時より、同じく、憧憬は、生れた。南から北へ、北から南へと、彼等は、相呼びかわしながら、はて知られぬ旅へと上った。何ものを求めるのか、彼等</seg><ruby type="furigana" rend="right" source="#source-1319-1337"><rb>自</rb><rt>みず</rt></ruby><seg source="#source-1337-1513">からにさえ分らないことであったろう。しかし、これを押しつめて言えば、真実を求めたのだ。もっと美しいものを求めたのだ。</seg></p>
      <p style="text-indent: 1em" rend="first-line-indent(1)"><seg source="#source-1513-1551">クロポトキンは、いう。</seg></p>
      <p>「人の心の中に、何かしらないものが住んでいる。そして、たえず、あらゆる人間に何をか訴へて<note type="sic" source="#source-1683-1716">「訴へて」はママ</note>いる。それは、即ち愛である」と。</p>
      <p style="text-indent: 1em" rend="first-line-indent(1)"><seg source="#source-1766-1900">幾千年の過去に於てそうであった。恐らくまた、永久の未来に於て、変りのないことであろう。</seg></p>
      <p style="text-indent: 1em" rend="first-line-indent(1)"><seg source="#source-1900-2244">思うに、我等の芸術は、そこから生れた。又、我等の社会運動は、そこから生れたのである。そこには、幾何、流浪の旅に上った芸術家があったか知れない。そこには同志を求めて、追われ、迫害されて、尚お、真実に殉じた戦士があったか知れない。</seg></p>
      <p style="text-indent: 1em" rend="first-line-indent(1)"><seg source="#source-2244-2483">彼等は、この憧憬と情熱とのみが、芸術に於て、運動に於て、同じく現実に虐げられ、苦しみつゝある人間を救い得ると信じていた。こゝに、彼等のロマンチシズムがある。</seg></p>
      <p style="text-indent: 1em" rend="first-line-indent(1)"><seg source="#source-2483-3079">しかし、曾て、どこにも、正義の国というものは見出されなかった。正義のみの村落、もしくは、美のみの郷土というものは、探し出されなかった。たとえば、人間に共通した真理はある。理想はある。感情はある。けれど、それのみの世界というものは、現実に於てあり得ない。大衆といい、民衆といい、抽象的に、いかように人間を考えらるゝことはあっても、実際に於ける、大衆の生活、民衆の生活は、全く個別的のものであった。</seg></p>
      <p style="text-indent: 1em" rend="first-line-indent(1)"><seg source="#source-3079-3414">どこに行っても、人間は、みな自分と同じように、たえず、何ものかを求めている。そして、苦しんでいる。環境と戦っている。そして、人間生活の真相は、その個々的のものについて、深く認識されるより他には、分る筈がなかったのである。</seg></p>
      <p style="text-indent: 1em" rend="first-line-indent(1)"><seg source="#source-3414-3561">それが、また、正しいのであった。流浪者が失意に泣くのは、深く人間を悟った時である。人間はみないろ</seg><choice source="#source-3561-3567"><orig>／＼</orig><reg>〱</reg></choice><seg source="#source-3567-3785">の形に於て、悩み苦しみ求めている。それは、曾て、抽象的に考えられたような、真実や、美は、そのまゝ何処にも存在するものでないと知ったがためである。</seg></p>
      <p style="text-indent: 1em" rend="first-line-indent(1)"><seg source="#source-3785-3944">流浪者程、自然をいつくしむものがないと、クロポトキンは言っている。なぜなら、自然のみが、どこに行っても、</seg><ruby type="furigana" rend="right" source="#source-3944-3965"><rb>莞爾</rb><rt>かんじ</rt></ruby><seg source="#source-3965-3986">として、遊子を</seg><ruby type="furigana" rend="right" source="#source-3986-4007"><rb>懐</rb><rt>ふところ</rt></ruby><seg source="#source-4007-4019">にいれて</seg><ruby type="furigana" rend="right" source="#source-4019-4037"><rb>欺</rb><rt>あざむ</rt></ruby><seg source="#source-4037-4243">かないからだ。しかし、変らないというばかりでは、このことは説明されない。一脈故郷の空や、原野と、ながめの相通ずるものがあるがためである。</seg></p>
      <p style="text-indent: 1em" rend="first-line-indent(1)"><seg source="#source-4243-4563">初期のロマンチストを目して、笑うことはできぬ。英国の山川詩人が、故郷の自然を愛したのは、清純な魂によってである。スコットランドの素朴な風景や、居酒屋に集る人々等は、バーンズによって、永久に芸術に生かされている。</seg></p>
      <p style="text-indent: 1em" rend="first-line-indent(1)"><seg source="#source-4563-4689">北方派の画家等にして、南欧の明るい風光に、一たび浴さんとしないものはない。彼等は、</seg><ruby type="furigana" rend="right" source="#source-4689-4716"><rb>仏蘭西</rb><rt>フランス</rt></ruby><seg source="#source-4716-4728">に行き、</seg><ruby type="furigana" rend="right" source="#source-4728-4755"><rb>伊太利</rb><rt>イタリー</rt></ruby><seg source="#source-4755-5285">に行くを常とした。しかし、そこはまた、彼等にとって、永住の地でなかったのである。伊太利の空を描いても、知らず北欧の空の色が、描き出されるのをいかんともすることができなかった。ゴッホに、到底セザンヌの軽快洒脱を望むことはできないが、その表現主義的であり、哲学的である点に於て、ゴッホとムンクと相通ずるところがあるのは、同じ、北方の産であったゝめであろう。</seg></p>
      <p style="text-indent: 1em" rend="first-line-indent(1)"><seg source="#source-5285-5536">私達は、さらに、漂浪の詩人に、郷土のなつかしまれたのを知る。レエルモントフのコウカサスに於ける、薄倖の革命詩人、レヴィートフの中央ロシヤの平原に於けるそれであった。</seg></p>
      <p style="text-indent: 1em" rend="first-line-indent(1)"><seg source="#source-5536-5991">彼等は、この広い天地に、曾て、自分を虐遇したとはいえ、少年時代を其処に送った郷土程、懐かしいものを漂浪の間に見出さなかった事である。少年時代とその周囲即ち自然にも、人間にも特別のものがなくてはならぬ。こゝに童話文学の発生がある所以だ。この殆んど神秘的な説明し難い感情こそ、土と人との連結でもあるのだ。</seg></p>
      <p style="text-indent: 1em" rend="first-line-indent(1)"><seg source="#source-5991-6428">どこの村落にせよ、まだ、あまり都会的害毒に侵されざるかぎり、また、彼等が土を耕している人間であるかぎり、自然発生的に、その村に結ばれた習慣があり、掟がある。そして、他郷に見られない、自からの扶助が行われている筈である。かゝる村落自治こそ、思い出しても、なつかしいものであったにちがいない。</seg></p>
      <p style="text-indent: 1em" rend="first-line-indent(1)"><seg source="#source-6428-6718">流浪漂泊の詩人が、郷土に対して、愛着を感じたのは、たゞ自然ばかりでなく、また人間に於てゞもある。真実を求めて、美を求めて、はてしない旅に上った彼等は、二たびそれを最も近い故郷に見出したのだ。</seg></p>
      <p>「無産階級に祖国なし」げに、資本主義の波に<ruby type="furigana" rend="right" source="#source-6781-6805"><rb>蕩揺</rb><rt>とうよう</rt></ruby><seg source="#source-6805-7050">されつゝ工場から工場へ、時に、海を越えて、何処と住居を定めぬ人々にとっては、一坪の菜園すら持たないのである。けれど、彼等は、それを、真に不幸とは思わないだろうか？</seg></p>
      <p style="text-indent: 1em" rend="first-line-indent(1)"><seg source="#source-7050-7265">人間は、到底、理知のみで生きることはできない。心の満足を必要とする。それが得られないために、僅かに憧憬によって、悲惨な生活にも堪え得るのだ。</seg></p>
      <p style="text-indent: 1em" rend="first-line-indent(1)"><seg source="#source-7265-7535">漂浪者の多くは、曾て郷土に反抗した人達であった。しかして、流浪の末に、最後に心の慰安を多くそこに見出したと知る時、私達は、土と人間の関係について今更の如く考えさせられるのである。</seg></p>
