      <p style="text-indent: 1em" rend="first-line-indent(1)"><seg source="#source-268-540">私がハイデルベルクからマールブルクへ移ったのとちょうど同じ頃にハイデッゲル氏はフライブルクからマールブルクへ移って来られた。私は氏の講義を聴くためにマールブルクへ行ったのである。</seg></p>
      <p style="text-indent: 1em" rend="first-line-indent(1)"><seg source="#source-540-2270">マールブルクに着いてから間もなく私は誰の紹介状も持たずにハイデッゲル氏を訪問した。学校もまだ始まらず、来任早々のことでもあって、ハイデッゲル氏は自分一人或る家に間借りをしておられたが、そこへ私は訪ねて行ったのである。何を勉強するつもりかときかれたので、私は、アリストテレスを勉強したいと思うが、自分の興味は日本にいた時分から歴史哲学にあるのでその方面の研究も続けてゆきたいと述べ、それにはどんなものを読むのが好いかと問うてみた。そこでハイデッゲル教授は、君はアリストテレスを勉強したいと云っているが、アリストテレスを勉強することがつまり歴史哲学を勉強することになるのだ、と答えられた。そのとき私には氏の言葉の意味がよくわからなかったのであるが、後に氏の講義を聴くようになって初めてその意味を理解することができた。即ち氏に依れば、歴史哲学は解釈学にほかならないので、解釈学がどのようなものであるかは自分で古典の解釈に従事することを通じておのずから習得することができるのである。大学での氏の講義もテキストの解釈を中心としたもので、アリストテレスとか、アウグスティヌスとか、トマスとか、デカルトとかの厚い全集本の一冊を教室へ持って来て、それを開いてその一節を極めて創意的に解釈しながら講義を進められた。私は本の読み方をハイデッゲル教授から学んだように思う。</seg></p>
      <p style="text-indent: 1em" rend="first-line-indent(1)"><seg source="#source-2270-2459">シュワン・アレーに定められた教授の宅へは私も時々伺ったが、そこにドイツ文学の古典の全集がぎっしり並んでいたのが特に私の注意を</seg><ruby type="furigana" rend="right" source="#source-2459-2471"><rb>惹</rb><rt>ひ</rt></ruby>いた。それを私はいささか奇異の感をもって眺めたのであるが、昨年『ヘルデルリンと詩の本質』という氏の論文を読むに至ってその関係が<ruby type="furigana" rend="right" source="#source-2660-2687"><rb>明瞭</rb><rt>めいりょう</rt></ruby>になった。最近氏の講義には芸術論が多いということである。氏は一度フライブルク大学の総長になられ、あの『ドイツ大学の自己主張』にあるような思想を述べられたこともあるが、ナチスとの関係が十分うまく行かなかったためか、総長の職は間もなく退いてこの頃では主として芸術哲学の講義をしていられるようにいわれている。日本でもマルクス主義に対する弾圧が激しくなった頃多くの人が芸術論に逃れたことのあったのを私は想い起し、ハイデッゲル教授の現在の心境を察し、一般に哲学と政治との関係について考えさせられるのである。</p>
      <p style="text-indent: 1em" rend="first-line-indent(1)"><seg source="#source-3433-3805">マールブルクのハイデッゲル教授の書斎で私の目に留ったのはもう一つ、室の中央にあった教会の説教机に似て立ちながら本を読んだりものを書いたりすることのできる高い机である。あんな机が欲しいものだと時々想い出すのであるが、私はいまだそれを造らないでいる。</seg></p>
