秋の末になって一匹の蛇が蛙に近づいて、

「どうだい。今までは敵同士だったが、もう君をたべなくてもいいから仲直りをして一緒の穴へ入ろうじゃないか」

と言いますと、蛙は眼をパチクリさして頭をふりました。

「嫌なこった。そんなことを言って来年の春あたたかくなったら一番に私をたべる積りだろう。私と仲よくしたいならふだんから私たちをたべないようにするがいい」
