本書に収められてる文章は、大正十四年から昭和八年までの間に、折にふれて書かれたものである。そして、昨年とか今月とかいうような言葉が散見されるし、時日が事柄と重要な関係を持つものもあるし、殊に感想の類は、当時の文芸的社会的情勢によって立論されたものが多いけれど、只今、その執筆年月を詳かにすることは難儀である。のみならず、如上の綜合的日付だけをしておいて、時事的関心以上のもので凡てを読んで頂きたいというのが、著者の希望でもある。
