見物のやじり方には、古今東西を通じていろいろあるやうだが、昔、仏蘭西では、舞台の俳優めがけて、腐つた卵や、焼き林檎を投げつけるといふ野蛮な風習があつた。

この風習は、後にやや緩和されて、口笛（シツフレ）となり、それでも、このシツフレはなかなか盛んで、「大根ひつこめ」ぐらゐの愛嬌では納まらない場合がある。

そこへ行くと、日本の見物は実に寛大で、役者は誠に気楽だが、そのために舞台がだらけきつてゐる。乱暴を奨励するわけではないが、日本にも役者がヘマをやつたら、梅干か蒟蒻ぐらゐぶつける習慣があつたら面白いだらう。（一九二八・一〇）
